Seema Haider, a Pakistani national who unlawfully entered India through Nepal with her four children to meet and marry Sachin Meena, a resident of Greater Noida she met in a PUBG chatroom, has now applied for Indian citizenship. Seeking permission to live in India with her children and husband, Seema Haider has written a petition to President Droupadi Murmu for Indian citizenship, even as Uttar Pradesh Police and Anti-Terrorism Squad continue their investigation into her illegal entry into the country. There have been mounting calls for her deportation to Pakistan.
Reportedly deeply influenced by Indian culture and traditions, Haider’s plea to President Murmu includes a request for mercy. Seema Haider and her Indian partner, Sachin Meena, were questioned by the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Anti-Terrorist Squad on Monday and Tuesday. They were previously arrested by local police in Greater Noida on July 4 but were granted bail on July 7.
During the ATS questioning, items such as two video cassettes, four mobile phones, five “authorised” Pakistani passports, one “unused passport” with incomplete name and address, and an identity card were received from Seema Haider. While there are speculations about her being a Pakistan spy, the Special DGP asserted that any conclusions could not be drawn so early in a matter involving two countries and until sufficient evidence is available.
The couple initially connected in 2020 through the online game PUBG and exchanged WhatsApp numbers after 15 days of gaming. They met in person for the first time in March this year in Kathmandu, Nepal, where they stayed together from March 10 to 17. Seema later traveled from Nepal to Pakistan on a 15-day tourist visa on May 10, then re-entered India from the Roopandehi-Khunwa border district Siddharthnagar on May 12. After reaching Rabupura cut, Gautam Buddha Nagar, via Lucknow and Agra, Seema joined Sachin, who had already rented a room in Rabupura, where they began living together.
