On Saturday, during the FIFA Women’s World Cup, New Zealand’s Women’s World Cup squad faced an unexpected event as they had to be temporarily evacuated from their hotel in Auckland due to a fire incident. The safety of the players and staff was the utmost concern, and fortunately, all of them were confirmed to be safe and unharmed.

At the time of the evacuation, the exact cause of the fire was not immediately known. Authorities reported that there were multiple blazes at the hotel, but they were successfully extinguished. While some individuals at the hotel received treatment for smoke inhalation, it was a relief to learn that no serious injuries occurred. Hotel staff indicated that the upper floors of the building were affected by smoke, but the situation was rapidly brought under control, preventing further damage and harm.

As the incident unfolded, the New Zealand Football issued a statement to address the situation and to provide assurance that the well-being of the team was a top priority. They confirmed that all team members and staff were accounted for and safe.

It is important to note that New Zealand is co-hosting the FIFA Women’s World Cup alongside Australia. The team had already showcased their talent and determination in the tournament’s opening match by securing a remarkable victory against Norway with a score of 1-0 on Thursday.

While the incident was undoubtedly concerning, the prompt response and effective handling by the authorities and hotel staff ensured the safety of everyone involved. The New Zealand Women’s World Cup squad can now continue their participation in the tournament with confidence and determination, knowing that their well-being is being looked after during their time in Auckland.
