Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam 2023 at the Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, marking a significant event that will be held on July 29-30. This gathering, known as the ‘Samagam,’ is taking place in conjunction with the third anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

During the two-day Samagam, sixteen sessions will be conducted, facilitating discussions on a range of topics. Among them are equitable and inclusive education, the national institute ranking framework, internationalization of education, access to quality education and governance, and addressing issues faced by socio-economically disadvantaged groups.

In his address to the nation, PM Modi emphasized the transformative power of education in shaping the country’s destiny. He highlighted education’s crucial role in fulfilling the nation’s aspirations and commended all stakeholders for their dedication and willingness to embrace new concepts during the inception of the NEP.

The prime minister praised the NEP for giving equal importance to traditional knowledge and futuristic technologies. He acknowledged the hard work of education stakeholders in crafting new curricula for primary education, developing books in regional languages, strengthening higher education, and bolstering the research ecosystem in India.

PM Modi highlighted the shift from the 10+2 system to the 5+3+3+4 system, where education now starts at the age of three, promoting uniformity. He also announced the Cabinet’s approval of the National Research Foundation Bill, aiming to make India a hub of research and innovation.

The National Curriculum Framework under the NEP is on its way, with the framework for 3-8-year-old students already prepared. A uniform syllabus will be implemented across the country, and new course books are being developed by NCERT to align with the NEP.

The prime minister emphasized the NEP’s goal to elevate India as a center for research and innovation, with education now being offered in around 130 subjects in all 22 Indian languages. He highlighted the significance of respecting all languages and criticized evaluating students solely based on their mother tongue, emphasizing the importance of recognizing their talents.

During the event, PM Modi released the first instalment of funds under the PM SHRI Scheme, supporting schools in nurturing engaged, productive, and contributing citizens, as envisioned by the NEP.

The Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam 2023 provides a platform for academics, teachers, policymakers, sector experts, industry representatives, and students to share insights, success stories, and best practices in implementing the NEP 2020 and strategize its further advancement.

The National Education Policy, aimed at grooming the youth and preparing them to lead the country, instills fundamental human values while preparing children for future challenges.
