Prime Minister Narendra Modi affirmed on Monday that the success of India’s G20 presidency should be attributed to the nation’s 1.4 billion citizens rather than to any specific individual or political party. Speaking during the first day of a five-day special parliamentary session, Modi characterized the more than 200 G20 events conducted across more than 60 locations in India as a tangible reflection of the nation’s diverse and inclusive identity.
“India will always take pride in the inclusion of the African Union in G20 during its presidency,” noted an official statement, quoting the Prime Minister’s address in Parliament.
The session held on Monday is anticipated to be the final one conducted in the old Parliament building, with the House scheduled to convene in the new facility on the following day. Drawing a parallel between the transition to a new residence and the move to the new Parliament building, Modi conveyed the emotional significance of bidding farewell to the old Parliament House. He also highlighted the historical importance of the 75-year-old Parliament House, which has witnessed numerous pivotal events shaping the trajectory of ‘New India.’
Underlining that India’s G20 Presidency extends until the end of November, Modi expressed support for the Speaker’s resolution to host a P20 Summit (Parliamentary 20), according to the statement.
Modi emphasized India’s role as “Vishwa Mitra” (global friend) and underscored that the entire world now perceives India as a friend. This transformation, he asserted, is rooted in India’s values, drawn from sources ranging from the Vedas to the teachings of Swami Vivekananda. He also highlighted the unifying mantra of “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas” (Together with All, Development for All) as the driving force behind India’s global outreach.
The Prime Minister’s remarks underscored the importance of India’s inclusive approach and the recognition of its diverse heritage on the international stage.
