Mumbai and its surrounding areas are expected to experience a spell of moderate rainfall or thundershowers, along with overcast conditions, on September 26, according to a weather forecast issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). This forecast comes after a week of intermittent showers in Mumbai and its neighboring townships.

The BMC posted on its social media platform, “Generally cloudy sky with moderate rain or thundershowers in Mumbai city and suburbs.”

On the preceding day, Mumbai city recorded a cumulative rainfall of 8.19 mm, while the eastern suburbs received 5.30 mm of rainfall, and the western suburbs registered 0.53 mm, as reported by the civic body.

After a relatively subdued Monsoon season in August, rainfall activity in Mumbai picked up in September, surpassing the monthly average. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that the city had received 380 mm of rainfall so far, exceeding the typical monthly norm of approximately 360 mm.

With four days remaining in September, there is the possibility of Mumbai’s cumulative rainfall for the month surpassing the 400 mm mark.

In a related update shared on September 22, the IMD anticipated a delayed pan-India withdrawal of the Monsoon this year. While the withdrawal of rain-bearing winds typically commences from the northwest of the country around September 17, the process for 2023 was expected to initiate on September 25, as per the IMD’s earlier prediction.

The IMD noted, “Reduced rainfall activity is expected to continue over northwest and adjoining west-central India for the next five days. Conditions are becoming favorable for the southwest monsoon to withdraw from parts of west Rajasthan around September 25.”

As Mumbai experiences another phase of rainfall and the Monsoon season extends into September, the city and its residents continue to adapt to the changing weather patterns. The anticipation of further rain and the potential for the cumulative September rainfall to exceed the 400 mm mark underscores the importance of preparedness and resilience in the face of variable weather conditions.

For Mumbai, a city accustomed to the Monsoon’s annual arrival, the fluctuating rainfall patterns are a regular feature of life. The city’s infrastructure and daily routines are adapted to accommodate the wet season, which includes measures to mitigate the impact of heavy rains and ensure the safety and well-being of its residents.

As the Monsoon season progresses, meteorological forecasts and updates from authorities like the BMC and IMD play a crucial role in informing residents and local administrations about the expected weather conditions, enabling them to make informed decisions and take necessary precautions.
