In a gruesome incident that unfolded in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria on October 2, six people lost their lives in a horrifying display of mob violence stemming from a long-standing land dispute. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has responded swiftly by ordering strict actions, including the suspension of senior officials.

The tragedy began when a village strongman, Prem Yadav, and Satya Prakash Dubey found themselves embroiled in a bitter property dispute that had persisted for a considerable time.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took decisive action in the wake of the incident. He ordered the immediate suspension of the Sub-District Magistrate and Area Officer of Rudrapur district. Additionally, departmental action was initiated against former Sub Collector Ram Vilas, Om Prakash, Dhruv Shukla, and Sanjeev Kumar Upadhyay.

The Chief Minister’s action followed his acknowledgment of inaction by officials in response to complaints filed under the Integrated Grievance Redressal System (IGRS) regarding the illegal occupation of village land by Satya Prakash Dubey, who ultimately met a tragic fate at the hands of a violent mob.

The horrifying sequence of events began with Prem Yadav visiting Satya Prakash Dubey’s residence on October 2, ostensibly to resolve their long-standing rivalry. However, during their conversation, a woman attacked Yadav with a sharp-edged weapon, leading to his death.

Upon learning of Yadav’s murder, a mob composed of his supporters stormed Dubey’s house, resulting in the tragic deaths of Dubey and four other members of his family. The violent attack claimed the lives of Dubey’s wife Kiran Dubey (52), daughters Saloni (18) and Nandani (10), and son Gandhi (15).

In the aftermath of the violence, Dubey’s 8-year-old son, Anmol, was left critically injured and was referred to BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur for treatment. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath personally visited the young survivor in the hospital, expressing concern for his well-being.

The incident highlights the gravity of land disputes in some regions of India and the need for swift action to address them and prevent tragic outcomes like the one witnessed in Deoria.
