Amidst the backdrop of recent Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raids at the residence of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Firhad Hakim in West Bengal, BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya has made allegations of a corruption scandal connected to Mamata Banerjee’s family in the state. Vijayvargiya’s claims suggest that a significant corruption case is set to be unveiled in West Bengal, which he believes will expose the alleged corruption within Mamata Banerjee’s family, including her nephew Abhishek Banerjee.
Vijayvargiya did not provide specific details about the alleged corruption but emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability, accusing the West Bengal government of not responding to notices sent under the Right to Information Act. The BJP leader’s statements come in the wake of ongoing investigations into allegations of irregularities in civic body recruitment in the state.
The CBI conducted search operations at multiple locations, including Kolkata, Kanchrapara, Barrackpore, Halisahar, Dumdum, North Dum Dum, Krishnanagar, Taki, and Kamarhati, as part of its investigation into alleged irregularities in civic body recruitment. Raids were also carried out at the residences of certain individuals, including public servants, in connection with the ongoing probe.
The investigation revolves around allegations of irregularities in the recruitment of Group C and Group D employees in various municipalities, District Primary School Councils, and other entities in West Bengal. These entities had reportedly entrusted a private company with tasks such as finalizing question papers, printing and scanning OMR sheets, and preparing the final merit list for the recruitment process.
It is alleged that a conspiracy was hatched among the directors of the private firm and other individuals, including public servants, to facilitate illegal appointments of unmeritorious candidates in exchange for monetary gains at several municipalities. The CBI’s probe seeks to uncover the extent of these alleged irregularities and identify those responsible.
These developments come amid heightened political tensions in West Bengal, with both the BJP and TMC engaging in a fierce political battle for influence and control in the state. The allegations and investigations add another layer of complexity to the political landscape in West Bengal, where issues of corruption, governance, and transparency have been central in recent times.
