In a shocking and tragic incident, two women from the Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra have been arrested for allegedly poisoning five members of their family over a property dispute. The accused women, Sanghamitra and Rosa, are from the same family and are believed to have used arsenic to carry out their nefarious plan. Arsenic, a toxic and tasteless heavy metal, was sourced from Telangana, where it is less likely to be detected in medical reports if mixed with water or food.
The victims of this horrifying incident included Shankar Kumbhare and his wife, Vijaya, who fell seriously ill on September 20. They were admitted to the hospital with symptoms such as severe body pain. However, their health continued to deteriorate due to the slow-acting poison, ultimately leading to their deaths on September 26 and 27.
The daughters of Shankar and Vijaya, Komal Dahagaokar and Ananda, as well as their son, Roshan Kumbhare, were also hospitalized due to the effects of slow poisoning. Komal Dahagaokar passed away on October 8, Ananda on October 14, and Roshan Kumbhare on October 15.
The accused women managed to execute their plan effectively until medical professionals began to suspect foul play. This led to a thorough investigation by the authorities, involving multiple teams spanning areas from Maharashtra to Telangana.
During the investigation, several motives behind this heinous crime came to light. Sanghamitra, who had married Roshan Kumbhare against her parents’ wishes, was reportedly unhappy due to frequent taunts and mistreatment by her husband and in-laws. Her distress intensified after her father’s tragic suicide a few months earlier. It was this deep-seated unhappiness that allegedly motivated her to poison her family members.
Rosa Ramteke, on the other hand, was embroiled in a property dispute within the family. Her husband’s parents and Vijaya Kumbhare, Shankar’s wife, were at odds over the sharing of ancestral property. These disputes added to the complexity of the family dynamics and reportedly played a role in Rosa’s participation in the poisoning plot.
The arrest of the two women has sent shockwaves through the community, and the case highlights the devastating consequences that property disputes and familial conflicts can have. The investigation is ongoing, and it is expected to shed further light on the motives and details of this tragic incident.
