A significant cross-border operation targeting drug and arms smuggling orchestrated by Pakistan-based criminals has been successfully disrupted in Amritsar, Punjab. The arrest of Simranjit Singh, alias Simar Maan, a resident of Village Gaggarmal in Amritsar, marked a crucial breakthrough in dismantling the illicit network.
Law enforcement authorities not only apprehended Simar Maan but also seized a consignment of 2 kg of Ice Drug (methamphetamine) during the operation. In addition to the narcotics, a highly sophisticated .30-bore Chinese pistol, along with five live cartridges, was recovered from the possession of the arrested smuggler.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav revealed that preliminary investigations indicated Simar Maan’s direct communication with Pakistan-based smugglers named Pathan and Amer. These smugglers reportedly supplied him with Ice drugs and weapons from across the border using a drone. Subsequently, Simar Maan distributed the illicit substances across the state. Ongoing investigations aim to establish the complete network of connections involved in the smuggling operation.
Providing further insights into the operation, Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, mentioned that the police acted on reliable intelligence about a large influx of Ice drugs and weapons planned by Pakistani smugglers. As part of the extensive operation in Chheharta area, police teams successfully arrested Simar Maan while he awaited the delivery of the consignment.
Bhullar emphasized that the investigation is still underway to unveil the entire network of drug suppliers, dealers, and buyers involved in the operation. Efforts are being made to determine the overall quantity of narcotics procured by the arrested individual thus far.
A case has been registered under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and the Arms Act at Chheharta Police Station in the Amritsar Commissionerate.
This successful operation is a testament to the coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies in thwarting cross-border criminal activities. The arrest of Simar Maan and the seizure of narcotics and weapons contribute significantly to disrupting the operations of the smuggling network that posed a threat to public safety and security.
