Following the circulation of images depicting a screw found in a sandwich purportedly served during an IndiGo flight, the airline has responded, stating that while they are aware of the claims, the issue was not reported by the passenger during the flight. The passenger in question shared his experience on social media, accompanied by a picture of the sandwich he consumed after disembarking from the aircraft, alleging the presence of a screw.

IndiGo, in its statement, acknowledged the circulating image on social media concerning the customer’s experience on flight 6E-904 from Bengaluru to Chennai on February 1, 2024. However, the airline emphasized that the passenger did not report the issue during the journey. Expressing regret for any inconvenience caused, IndiGo did not provide specific details regarding the image in circulation.

The airline reiterated its commitment to sourcing in-flight meals from reputable and highly regarded caterers to uphold the highest standards of quality and hygiene. Despite the regrettable incident, IndiGo assured passengers of its dedication to providing the best possible in-flight experience while ensuring compliance with all food and hygiene standards.

This incident follows a previous occurrence where the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued a show cause notice to IndiGo for serving unsafe food to a passenger. The notice came after a worm was discovered in a sandwich served onboard a flight from Delhi to Mumbai on December 29. IndiGo promptly apologized after the passenger shared a video of the incident on social media.

In response to such incidents, FSSAI issued directives urging airlines and flight caterers to adhere strictly to food safety regulations, stressing the importance of comprehensive information on passenger-served items through proper labeling. To further address food safety concerns within the airline catering industry, FSSAI convened a meeting with leading flight caterers and airlines on January 16 to evaluate and enhance existing food safety protocols.

These developments underscore the significance of ensuring food safety and quality standards in the aviation industry, highlighting the collaborative efforts between regulatory authorities, airlines, and caterers to address such issues effectively and uphold passenger well-being and satisfaction.
