Honda Cars India has set its sights on the burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) market in India, unveiling both pricing details and its future EV plans. The company recently disclosed the pricing range for the Honda Elevate mid-size SUV, which starts at ₹10.99 lakh and goes up to ₹15.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Furthermore, Honda has revealed its intention to introduce an all-electric variant of the Elevate by 2026, marking its entry into India’s growing EV segment.
Takuya Tsumura, President and CEO of Honda Cars India, emphasized the company’s commitment to the Indian market by focusing on the development of a battery-electric version of the Honda Elevate. While specific details about the forthcoming Elevate EV remain undisclosed, this move signals Honda’s determination to join the electric mobility revolution in India.
Honda is actively working on the development of four SUV models set to launch in India by 2030, with the Elevate EV at the forefront of this strategy. Kunal Behl, Vice President (Marketing and Sales) at Honda Cars India, noted the impressive 34% surge in mid-sized SUV sales in India this year compared to the previous year. The segment currently maintains an average monthly sales figure of approximately 70,500 units, reflecting the strong demand for SUVs in India.
With a clear focus on capitalizing on this growing segment, Honda aims to secure a significant market share by introducing a range of SUV models in the coming years, with the Honda Elevate leading the way as the first offering.
President and CEO Takuya Tsumura stated, “Our focus is now on the SUV segment. Starting from Elevate, we are going to introduce five SUVs by 2030. It is very important for the company to be in the SUV segment, which has become the leading vertical in terms of volumes.”
He also emphasized the strong response from buyers for the Elevate SUV, highlighting the potential to attract a new customer base to Honda’s portfolio. While punctual SUV deliveries during the festive season are a current priority, Honda clarified that it does not have specific sales targets in mind for the Honda Elevate.
Kunal Behl added, “We are not targeting any specific number in terms of sales, but since commencing bookings in July, without revealing the price, we have a waiting period of 5-6 months on certain trims.” This enthusiastic response bodes well for Honda as it enters the competitive Indian EV market with the Elevate and other forthcoming models.
