IndiGo, a prominent low-cost carrier, has taken a significant step to address the impact of rising Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices on its operations. Effective from 00:01 hrs on October 06, 2023, IndiGo has introduced a fuel charge for passengers booking flights on both domestic and international routes.

The decision to implement a fuel charge comes in response to the substantial and consistent increase in ATF prices over the past three months, with monthly price hikes. ATF represents a significant portion of an airline’s operating expenses, making it necessary for IndiGo to adjust fares to accommodate this cost surge.

The newly introduced pricing structure for the fuel charge is based on the distance of the sector, with passengers incurring varying charges accordingly:

  • 0-500 km: ₹300
  • 501-1000 km: ₹400
  • 1001-1500 km: ₹550
  • 1501-2500 km: ₹650
  • 2501-3500 km: ₹800
  • 3501 km and above: ₹1000

IndiGo has emphasized its commitment to providing affordable fares to its valued customers despite the introduction of the fuel charge. The airline has been recognized as one of the fastest-growing low-cost carriers globally, known for its philosophy of offering affordable fares, punctual flights, and a hassle-free travel experience.

With a fleet of over 320 aircraft, IndiGo operates over 1900 daily flights, connecting 81 domestic destinations and 32 international destinations. The airline continues to expand its network and services to meet the evolving needs of travelers while addressing the challenges posed by volatile fuel prices.

Passengers booking flights with IndiGo can access the sector-wise charges associated with the fuel charge on the airline’s official website, www.goindigo.in. This transparent approach allows travelers to understand the fare structure and make informed decisions when booking their flights.

IndiGo’s decision to introduce the fuel charge underscores the airline’s commitment to sustaining its operations while ensuring that passengers continue to enjoy the benefits of affordable and accessible air travel. The aviation industry’s response to fluctuating fuel prices remains a critical aspect of providing reliable and cost-effective travel options to passengers.
