The theme of the SemiconIndia 2023 conference, “Catalysing India’s Semiconductor Ecosystem,” resonated with India’s ambition to establish itself as a global hub for semiconductor design, manufacturing, and technology development. Organized by the India Semiconductor Mission in collaboration with industry associations, the event aimed to foster growth and innovation within the country’s semiconductor industry.
During PM Modi’s recent visit to the US, significant investment announcements were made for India’s semiconductor sector, further enhancing the Indo-US collaboration. Micron Technology’s commitment to invest up to USD 825 million in a new semiconductor assembly and test facility in India received strong backing from the Indian government. Additionally, Applied Materials pledged to invest USD 400 million in establishing a collaborative engineering center in the country, strengthening India’s research and development capabilities in the semiconductor domain. Lam Research’s proposal to train 60,000 Indian engineers through its Semiverse Solution virtual fabrication platform is set to empower India’s semiconductor education and workforce, contributing to the sector’s growth and expertise.
These investments and collaborations are expected to propel India’s semiconductor industry to new heights and cement its position as a global player in the semiconductor market.
