Bengaluru residents were eagerly anticipating Trevor Noah’s ‘Off The Record’ tour, which had kicked off successfully in Delhi on 23 September. However, when it came to the Bengaluru show, things took an unexpected turn as the city’s notorious Outer Ring Road (ORR) traffic played spoilsport.
Trevor Noah, renowned for his insightful take on global politics and current events, found himself in an unfortunate situation after the triumph of his Delhi show. The Bengaluru audience struggled to reach the venue in the Silicon Valley of India, leading to frustration and disappointment.
Disgruntled netizens took to the micro-blogging platform ‘X’ to vent their grievances and share their experiences. Some individuals, trapped in traffic snarls, resorted to selling their precious Trevor Noah tickets. One tweet read, “#TrevorNoah tickets for the show tonight at 7:30 Anyone want 2 tickets? ₹6500, selling for ₹5000 each. Friend can’t make it as she is stuck in the crazy ORR traffic! If you live next to Manyata… best.”
A hopeful viewer expressed their exasperation, tweeting, “The show better be good. @Trevornoah BETTER BE GOOD! Because I spent 2 hours on the road to reach a very sad looking venue which had the worst parking 1/2km away.” The technical snag ultimately forced Trevor Noah to cancel his Bengaluru shows.
Amidst the disappointment, humorous remarks emerged on ‘X.’ One user quipped, “BMS stands now for Buggered My Show.” Another added, “International bezzati karwa li Bangalore ne #trevornoah.”
Another ‘X’ user found amusement in the situation, saying, “I’d been deeply missing Bangalore for the last couple of weeks… but now I’m cured after seeing a hilariously sad number of people trying to sell their #TrevorNoah tickets because they’re stuck in traffic and can’t make it. 😂😂 If this ain’t @peakbengaluru…”
There were also speculations about Trevor Noah canceling the show due to repeated delays. A tweet mentioned, “Apparently the sound is so bad, @Trevornoah is saying he is going to cancel the show and refund the money 😞😞😞.”
In the end, Trevor Noah had to make the tough decision to cancel both Bengaluru shows, citing technical issues. He expressed his regret on ‘X,’ writing, “Dear Bengaluru India, I was so looking forward to performing in your amazing city but due to technical issues we’ve been forced to cancel both shows.”
Dear Bengalaru India, I was so looking forward to performing in your amazing city but due to technical issues we’ve been forced to cancel both shows.
We tried everything but because the audience can’t hear the comedians on stage there’s literally no way to do a show. We’ll make…— Trevor Noah (@Trevornoah) September 27, 2023
Reports suggested that Trevor Noah left the stage during the Bengaluru show because attendees who managed to overcome the ORR traffic gridlock were unable to hear the performers due to audio issues.
One ‘X’ user lamented, “It’s just not the sound system. The venue was so horrid, seating was cramped, the auditorium was hot. The crowd was whacked out. How can an event of this scale fail so miserably? As my friend eloquently put, came for comedy got tragedy! #trevornoah in Luru.”
The situation even caught the attention of a Fintech Startup CEO who tweeted, “Trevor Noah’s show in Bengaluru cancelled. He’s still stuck in traffic.”
In the midst of disappointment, one ‘X’ user humorously remarked, “Looks like Bengaluru has given Trevor Noah enough standup content for the rest of his life.”
