Air India, with backing from the Tata Group, is set to introduce new uniforms designed by renowned fashion designer Manish Malhotra for its staff. The airline aims to roll out the new uniforms for over 10,000 employees, including cabin crew, cockpit crew, and ground and security staff, by the end of 2023.

This initiative is part of Air India’s ongoing modernization program and represents a significant step in the manifestation of the airline’s new global brand identity. Currently, the cabin crew of Air India wear Indian attire in the form of sarees, while the cabin crew of other airlines in the country generally wear Western attire.

Air India’s collaboration with Manish Malhotra is driven by the shared ambition of representing the vibrant, bold, and progressive spirit of India on the global stage. The airline is working closely with the designer and his team to create a fresh and exciting new look that aligns with Air India’s brand, heritage, culture, and the unique requirements of the airline industry.

Manish Malhotra and his team have already commenced discussions and fitting sessions with Air India’s frontline staff to better understand their specialized needs. The designer expressed the goal of intertwining tradition with the future, crafting uniforms that prioritize comfort, authenticity, and timeless elegance.

Air India was acquired by the Tata Group in January 2022 as part of a government-led strategic divestment program. The airline is currently undergoing a five-year transformation roadmap known as Vihaan.AI, with the aim of achieving a 30% market share in both the international and domestic aviation segments.

In August, Air India unveiled its new brand identity, which includes a modern logo featuring golden, red, and purple colors. This new logo represents limitless possibilities, progress, and the airline’s confident outlook for the future, replacing the old logo inspired by the Ashoka Chakra.

The collaboration with Manish Malhotra is expected to enhance Air India’s image and provide its staff with uniforms that reflect the airline’s values and aspirations on the global stage.
