Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan has made headlines with his recent real estate investment in Ayodhya, where he purchased a plot worth ₹14.5 crore in The Sarayu, a 7-star mixed-use enclave. The move comes just ahead of the Ram Mandir ‘Pran Prathista’ ceremony scheduled for January 22, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya.
The Sarayu, spread over 51 acres, is a project by Mumbai-based developer The House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL). The development is set to be inaugurated on the same day as the historic temple ceremony. The enclave aims to seamlessly blend tradition and modernity, creating an emotional tapestry that resonates with the cultural and spiritual significance of Ayodhya.
Amitabh Bachchan, who was born in Allahabad (now Prayagraj), has strong emotional ties to Ayodhya and expressed his excitement about the investment. The Bollywood veteran intends to build a home spanning around 10,000 square feet on the acquired plot within The Sarayu enclave.
In a statement, Amitabh Bachchan said, “I am looking forward to embark on this journey with The House of Abhinandan Lodha for The Sarayu in Ayodhya, a city that holds a special place in my heart. The timeless spirituality and cultural richness of Ayodhya have forged an emotional connection that transcends geographical boundaries.”
Highlighting the unique blend of tradition and modernity in Ayodhya, Bachchan added, “This is a start of a heartfelt journey into the soul of Ayodhya, where tradition and modernity seamlessly co-exist, creating an emotional tapestry that resonates with me deeply. I am looking forward to building my home in the global spiritual capital.”
The Sarayu enclave, positioned about 15 minutes away from the Ram Temple and 30 minutes from the Ayodhya international airport, is expected to become a landmark development in the region. The project includes plotted developments and a five-star palace hotel, formed through a collaboration with the Brookfield group-owned Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by March 2028.
Amitabh Bachchan’s investment in The Sarayu is seen as a significant endorsement of Ayodhya’s growing prominence and development. The legendary actor, known for his contributions to Indian cinema and cultural influence, choosing to invest in Ayodhya adds to the city’s allure as a hub for spiritual and cultural activities.
Abhinandan Lodha, Chairman of The House of Abhinandan Lodha, welcomed Amitabh Bachchan as the “first citizen” of The Sarayu. The development is poised to benefit from the legendary actor’s association, attracting attention and potentially boosting interest in Ayodhya’s real estate market.
Ayodhya has been witnessing substantial infrastructure development since 2019 when the Supreme Court awarded the title of the site that housed the Babri Masjid to the Hindus. This decision has led to increased land prices within the city and its outskirts, particularly towards Lucknow and Gorakhpur.
The Sarayu project, with its blend of luxury living, cultural significance, and proximity to the upcoming Ram Temple, is likely to draw interest from investors and homebuyers looking to be a part of Ayodhya’s evolving landscape. Amitabh Bachchan’s investment adds a touch of stardom to the enclave, emphasizing its appeal as a destination that combines spirituality, culture, and modern living.
