The Chennai Metro Rail has adjusted its services on the Blue Line and Green Line for February 18, 2024, due to maintenance work being conducted by Southern Railways. To accommodate passengers affected by the maintenance, the metro will run trains from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm instead of the usual 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with an increased frequency of every seven minutes.

Additionally, during the morning hours from 5:00 am to 10:00 am and in the evening from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm, metro trains will operate every 10 minutes as per the regular Sunday schedule. These changes are applicable only for February 18.

The Chennai Metro Rail Authority urged passengers to plan their journeys accordingly and thanked them for their cooperation. They advised commuters traveling towards Chennai city to consider utilizing the metro train service and special buses of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) from Tambaram to Airport and Meenambakkam.

Passengers can access more details on the CMRL mobile application or website and book metro tickets “On the Go” using various apps such as Paytm, PhonePe, WhatsApp, RedBus, and Namma Yatri.

In other news, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to expedite the approval of Phase-II of the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) Project. Expressing concerns over the delay in approval from the Central Government, Stalin emphasized the importance of timely execution of Phase II.

Phase II of the CMRL project, estimated to cost over ₹60,000 crore, covers three corridors spanning 116 km: Madhavaram to SIPCOT (Corridor-3), Lighthouse to Poonamallee (Corridor-4), and Madhavaram to Sholinganallur (Corridor-5), with 118 stations planned. The project aims to enhance public transportation and connectivity in Chennai, building upon the success of Phase I.

As part of the Phase-II project, CMRL has awarded a ₹1215.92 crore contract to Alstom Transport India Ltd. for the supply of 36 driverless trains, further advancing the modernization and expansion of Chennai’s metro rail network.
