Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge launched the party’s campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections with a public meeting in Dehradun on Sunday. The event marked a significant step for the Congress as it gears up for the crucial polls scheduled later this year. Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat expressed gratitude that Kharge chose Uttarakhand to initiate the call for change, emphasizing the party’s commitment to justice.
“We are grateful that he has chosen Uttarakhand to give his call for a change. Justice is what Rahul Gandhi’s Nyay Yatra is all about. The party president’s program is a part of it,” stated Harish Rawat on Saturday. He further highlighted the universal demand for justice across various sections of society, including women, unemployed youth, and farmers.
Kharge’s public meeting took place at the Bannu School ground in the Race Course area, as the Congress had sought permission from the district administration to use the Parade ground but was denied due to ongoing renovations as part of the Dehradun Smart City project. The Congress accused the BJP government of conspiring to disrupt its programs nationwide, citing instances like the disruption of Rahul Gandhi’s Nyay Yatra in Assam.
Uttarakhand, with five Lok Sabha seats, is currently under the BJP’s control, and the Congress aims to challenge the ruling party’s stronghold in the upcoming elections. The party’s campaign is expected to focus on key issues affecting the state and the nation, resonating with the public’s concerns and aspirations.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor shared insights into the party’s preparations, stating that the first draft of the Congress manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections is anticipated to be released by February 15. He emphasized that the internal procedures would involve finalizing the draft through the party’s working committee. Tharoor expressed confidence that the manifesto would be ready well before the Election Commission announces the poll dates.
“We have our internal procedures. The first draft should be ready by February 15, but thereafter it has to be agreed upon and adopted by our working committee. But certainly, by the time the Election Commission announces the elections, our manifesto will be ready and out,” Tharoor explained.
The Congress party is strategically working on its manifesto to address the pressing concerns of the people across the country. With a focus on justice, development, and inclusive policies, the manifesto aims to resonate with voters and present a comprehensive vision for the nation’s future.
In addition to the party’s individual efforts, there is growing anticipation for the opposition bloc INDIA (Indian National Democratic Alliance) to collaborate on a common manifesto. Shashi Tharoor expressed hope that the INDIA bloc would consider incorporating elements from the manifestos of various parties in the alliance, creating a unified vision that addresses core issues affecting the nation.
The 2024 Lok Sabha elections are crucial for all political parties, with each vying to present a compelling narrative and vision for the future. The Congress, under the leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge, is making early strides in its campaign, aiming to connect with the people and build momentum for the upcoming electoral battle.
As the election season unfolds, political dynamics and alliances are expected to evolve, shaping the landscape for the electoral contest. The Congress’s strategic approach, including the timely release of its manifesto, will play a crucial role in defining its narrative and attracting voters across the diverse spectrum of Indian society. The coming months are likely to witness intensified political activities, public engagements, and strategic maneuvering as parties gear up for one of the most significant democratic exercises in the world.
