The Delhi government has issued a notice outlining significant measures in light of the upcoming G20 Summit scheduled in Delhi. All shops within the national capital will be required to remain closed from September 8 to September 10, according to the notice. Additionally, the government has mandated that all employees in Delhi be granted “paid holidays” during this period.
The notice reads, “All employers of Shops, Commercial and Business Establishments functioning in New Delhi, District of NCT of Delhi shall close their Shops, Commercial and Business Establishments from 08/09/2023 to 10/09/2023 and grant paid holidays to their employees/workers.”
To facilitate the smooth movement of delegates and tourists during the G20 Summit, the Delhi Police has introduced a virtual help desk. This online platform, accessible at https://traffic.delhipolice.gov.in/dtpg20info, provides real-time traffic updates for navigating the city. It also offers essential maps, information on police services, social media updates, and medical facilities.
In preparation for the international event, Delhi underwent a visual transformation. Around seven lakh flowering and foliage plants were strategically placed across the city. These plants, including various varieties of flowering plants and potted shrubs, were positioned along roads, roundabouts, near summit venues, and high-footfall hotels to create an inviting and vibrant atmosphere.
As part of security measures, the New Delhi district will be designated as “Controlled Zone-I” from 5 am on September 8 to 11.59 pm on September 10. During this period, authorized residents, vehicles, and emergency vehicles will be allowed to travel within the New Delhi district’s road network.
The G20 Summit, an international gathering of world leaders, will be hosted by India. The main event is scheduled to take place in New Delhi on September 9-10. Anticipated attendees include heads of state from 29 countries, representatives from the European Union, invited guest countries, and leaders of 14 international organizations.
