The Delhi Traffic Police has issued traffic regulations in light of the Chehlum procession in the national capital, as reported by Hindustan Times. Several roads and stretches will be regulated to facilitate the procession, and commuters are advised to plan their routes accordingly. Some bus services may also be terminated.

Passengers traveling to New Delhi Railway Station are urged to leave early to account for possible delays on certain routes today.

The advisory suggests that commuters avoid Connaught Place and instead reach the Ajmeri Gate side using alternative routes such as Tilak Marg, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg, or by way of Rajghat and Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, depending on the progress of the Chehlum procession.

For those traveling from West and South Delhi, the recommended route is Punjabi Bagh Chowk, Ring Road Dhaula Kuan, Ring Road, Mool Chand Flyover, Mathura Road, W-Point – ITO, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg, leading to New Delhi Railway Station.

Commuters from North and East Delhi should consider taking Rohtak Road and Rani Jhansi Road to reach New Delhi Railway Station, according to reports from Hindustan Times.

Chehlum, also known as Arbaeen, is a significant religious observance commemorating the 40th day of mourning since the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, during the Battle of Karbala in Iraq in the 7th century. This year, on September 7, the Shia community will observe Chehlum, as reported by HT.

On September 6, the main procession is scheduled to depart at 8:30 a.m. from Pahari Bhojila and will proceed to Dargah Shah-e-Mardan before continuing to Karbala and Jor Bagh (PS Lodhi Colony). The route includes Bazar Chitli Qabar, Bazar Matia Mahal, Chowk Jama Masjid, Chowk Hauz Qazi, Ajmeri Gate, Chelmsford Road, and New Delhi Railway Station.

It’s essential for commuters in Delhi to stay updated on the traffic regulations and advisories during the Chehlum procession to ensure a smooth and hassle-free journey, especially if they plan to travel to New Delhi Railway Station or pass through the affected areas.
