A strange incident came to light on Monday when an elderly couple tragically lost their lives in a peculiar accident at their residence on Kalavad Road in Rajkot. According to a report by The Times of India, the incident occurred when Manjula Vithlani, a 68-year-old woman weighing 128 kg, hurriedly used the staircase after her son Ashish, who resided on the first floor, complained of breathing difficulties.
In her haste, Manjula slipped on the staircase and accidentally fell on her husband Natvarlal, who was following closely behind her. Due to her substantial weight, Natvarlal suffered serious head injuries, and the unfortunate accident proved fatal for both of them.
The elderly couple lived on the ground floor of their bungalow, while their son Ashish and his wife Nisha resided on the first floor. The incident unfolded at around 4 am when Nisha went downstairs to fetch medicine for Ashish. Upon seeing his parents awaken, they all rushed to the first floor to check on Ashish’s health. However, in the chaos, Manjula lost her balance and slipped, resulting in the tragic accident that led to both her and Natvarlal’s deaths. They were immediately rushed to a private hospital, but sadly, they succumbed to cerebral haemorrhage.
Nisha attempted to reach out to her in-laws upon hearing the noise on the staircase, but she, too, unfortunately slipped on the floor and sustained minor injuries to her leg.
The investigating officer of Rajkot taluka police station, Pradhyuman Ravaiya, stated that the elderly couple was deeply concerned about their son’s health. Hence, when they received news of his illness, they hastily tried to reach the first floor, inadvertently leading to the tragic accident. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of caution and composure, especially during moments of urgency, to prevent such unfortunate events from occurring.
