PM Modi highlighted India’s position as a global leader in solar and wind power and stressed the importance of providing low-cost finance for developing countries to ensure their participation in sustainable energy transitions.
He called for collaboration on fuels for the future and emphasized the need for transnational grids and interconnections to enhance energy security. India is promoting cooperation with neighboring countries in this regard, and interconnected green grids have the potential to transform the energy landscape, meet climate goals, stimulate green investment, and create millions of green jobs.
PM Modi mentioned significant achievements in India’s energy transition, including providing LPG connections to 190 million families, connecting every village with electricity, and working towards piped cooking gas for 90% of the population. The country has also launched initiatives such as the LED distribution program, agriculture pump solarisation, and plans for 10 million annual electric vehicle sales by 2030.
In the context of decarbonization, India is focusing on green growth hydrogen as an alternative and aims to become a global hub for its production, use, and export. PM Modi invited delegates to join the green grids initiative of the international solar alliance, named ‘One Sun, One World, One Grid.’
He emphasized the cultural and traditional value of caring for the environment and urged everyone to adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle to become climate champions. The Prime Minister emphasized that preserving Earth, protecting the interests of all families, and working towards a green future should be our collective responsibility.
