Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu has made good on one of the promises made by the Congress party ahead of the state Assembly elections by announcing a monthly financial aid scheme for women. Under the newly launched scheme named the “Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojna,” women aged between 18 to 60 years will receive ₹1,500 per month starting from the next financial year. This initiative is expected to benefit over five lakh women, with the state government allocating ₹800 crore annually for its implementation.

Sukhu emphasized the significance of this monthly scheme, stating that it represents a commitment to uplift and empower women in the state. He expressed satisfaction in closing the doors to corruption and ensuring that the funds reach the intended beneficiaries. The announcement marks the fulfillment of one of the key promises made by the Congress party during the election campaign.

With the implementation of the Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojna, the Himachal Pradesh government has now fulfilled five out of the ten poll promises made by the party. This includes the restoration of the old pension scheme, which has benefited around 1.36 lakh state employees.

Despite facing political challenges, Sukhu affirmed the stability of his government and expressed confidence in completing its full term. He acknowledged the difficult political landscape in Himachal Pradesh but remained optimistic about the Congress party’s ability to govern effectively.

Reflecting on the government’s achievements over the past year, Sukhu highlighted its efforts to address the state’s financial challenges and provide relief to those affected by natural disasters. He underscored the government’s commitment to supporting families impacted by disasters and implementing measures to mitigate their hardships.

The political landscape in Himachal Pradesh witnessed some upheaval during the recent Rajya Sabha elections, with nine MLAs, including six Congress rebels and three independents, siding with the BJP candidate. Despite these challenges, Sukhu remains focused on governing effectively and delivering on the promises made to the people of Himachal Pradesh.

Overall, the announcement of the Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojna represents a significant step towards empowering women and promoting inclusive growth in Himachal Pradesh. It underscores the government’s commitment to social welfare and its dedication to improving the lives of its citizens. With the successful implementation of this scheme, the state can expect to see positive outcomes in terms of women’s empowerment and socio-economic development.
