The INDIA opposition alliance, formed with the aim of consolidating opposition parties against the ruling party, is preparing for its next meeting scheduled to take place in Mumbai on August 31 and September 1. Senior leaders within the alliance are expressing optimism about the upcoming meeting and the unity among various parties.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, a key figure in the alliance, asserted that his primary objective is to unite all parties for a common cause. He stated, “I don’t want anything for myself, I just want to unite everyone. Few more parties will be joining.” His statement reflects his commitment to the alliance’s goal of presenting a united front against the ruling party.

JD(U) leader Shravan Kumar shared that while Nitish Kumar is considered a worthy candidate for the post of Prime Minister, he does not aspire to hold the position himself. “Nitish Kumar himself does not aspire to become the prime minister. His target is that the INDIA alliance should form the government after the 2024 Lok Sabha polls,” Shravan Kumar mentioned.

As the Mumbai meeting approaches, Congress leader Milind Deora indicated that the seat-sharing arrangement among the partners of the INDIA bloc for the Lok Sabha elections in 2024 is largely finalized in many states, with only a few requiring more time for discussions.

One significant aspect of the upcoming meeting is the unveiling of the common logo of the INDIA bloc. It is expected that around 26 to 27 parties will participate in the meeting. Congress leader Ashok Chavan stated, “We are deciding to make a common logo and it may get unveiled on August 31.”

While the opposition alliance aims to present a united front, political analysts have raised concerns about potential disagreements within the bloc, particularly on sensitive issues such as selecting the face of the opposition alliance and determining the position of the Prime Minister candidate.

The INDIA opposition alliance is poised to hold discussions and strategize during the Mumbai meeting as it continues to work toward a cohesive and effective opposition against the ruling party.
