The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has revealed that the Indian Embassy in Cambodia has been actively addressing the grievances of Indian citizens who were deceived by promises of employment opportunities in Cambodia but were coerced into engaging in illegal cyber activities.

According to MEA officials, approximately 250 Indians have been rescued and repatriated back to India, with 75 individuals being brought back in the last three months alone.

In a statement, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized the embassy’s proactive response to complaints from Indian nationals who were enticed with job prospects in Cambodia but were ultimately compelled to partake in illicit cyber work. He highlighted the collaborative efforts between the Indian Embassy and Cambodian authorities in rescuing and repatriating affected individuals.

The statement underscored the issuance of multiple advisories by the MEA and the Embassy of India in Cambodia, cautioning Indian nationals about the prevalence of such fraudulent schemes. Jaiswal reiterated the MEA’s commitment to providing assistance to Indian citizens in Cambodia who seek ministry support, affirming ongoing collaboration with Cambodian authorities and Indian agencies to combat perpetrators of these deceptive practices.

The MEA’s statement serves as a warning to Indian citizens about the dangers of falling victim to job scams and illegal activities abroad. It highlights the importance of exercising caution and vigilance when exploring employment opportunities overseas and underscores the need for timely intervention and support from diplomatic missions in addressing such challenges.

Furthermore, the collaborative efforts between Indian and Cambodian authorities demonstrate a commitment to combating transnational crime and safeguarding the welfare of Indian citizens abroad. By working together to crack down on those responsible for perpetrating fraudulent schemes, both countries aim to prevent the exploitation of vulnerable individuals and uphold the principles of justice and integrity.

The plight of Indian nationals deceived by false promises of employment underscores the need for enhanced awareness and preventive measures to mitigate the risks associated with job scams and human trafficking. Through proactive intervention and collaboration between governments, law enforcement agencies, and diplomatic missions, efforts can be made to disrupt criminal networks and protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation.

In light of the increasing prevalence of job scams and illicit activities targeting Indian citizens abroad, the MEA’s commitment to providing support and assistance to affected individuals is commendable. By prioritizing the safety and well-being of Indian nationals overseas, the ministry reaffirms its dedication to upholding the rights and interests of Indian citizens worldwide.

As efforts continue to combat fraudulent schemes and provide support to affected individuals, it is essential for Indian citizens to remain vigilant and informed about potential risks when seeking employment opportunities abroad. By staying informed and exercising caution, individuals can protect themselves from falling victim to exploitation and ensure their safety and security while pursuing opportunities overseas.
