Indian Navy Sailor Sahil Verma Missing: Parents Seek CBI Probe

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested three suspects, including Sheikh Shahjahan's brother Sheikh Alomgir in the Sandeshkhali ED assault case, as per sources.

The mysterious disappearance of Indian Navy sailor Sahil Verma has left his parents distraught and seeking answers. Sahil Verma, a Seaman II, went missing from an Indian Naval Ship on February 27, 2024, sparking a massive search operation by the Indian Navy. However, despite extensive efforts, Sahil remains untraceable, leaving his family desperate for answers and justice.

Sahil Verma’s parents, Subash Chander and Rama Kumari, reside in Jammu’s Ghou Manhasan area. They are deeply troubled by the circumstances surrounding their son’s disappearance and have raised several questions about the incident. One of their primary concerns is how a soldier could vanish from a naval ship equipped with CCTV cameras. According to Subash Chander, the absence of any footage showing Sahil falling into the sea raises further doubts about the circumstances of his disappearance.

“It is astonishing that a soldier went missing from his naval ship and is not traceable. I have been told that the CCTV cameras installed on the ship did not find anyone falling into the sea. Then where is my son?” expressed Subash Chander in an interview with a news agency.

The family’s demand for a thorough investigation into Sahil’s disappearance has led them to call for the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other high-ranking officials. They have urged the government to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to ensure a comprehensive probe into the matter. According to Sahil’s parents, he was on duty at the time of his disappearance, further underscoring the seriousness of the situation.

Rama Kumari, Sahil’s mother, echoed her husband’s concerns and questioned why only their son went missing from a ship with over 400 people on board. “There were 400 people on board the ship and only my son went missing. My prayers and demands are only that my son returns safe and sound,” she lamented.

The family’s plea for justice has garnered attention from various quarters, with many expressing solidarity and support for their cause. They have appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene and ensure a swift and thorough investigation into Sahil’s disappearance.

The Western Naval Command, in its statement addressing Sahil Verma’s disappearance, acknowledged the gravity of the situation and assured the public of ongoing efforts to locate him. A massive search operation involving ships and aircraft was launched immediately after Sahil was reported missing, but as days pass without any significant breakthrough, concerns for his safety continue to grow.

The case has also raised broader questions about safety and security protocols aboard naval vessels. The absence of concrete evidence or leads in Sahil’s disappearance has prompted calls for a review of surveillance measures and emergency response procedures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The anguish and uncertainty faced by Sahil Verma’s family serve as a stark reminder of the human toll of such incidents. Beyond the headlines and official statements, there are real people grappling with the agony of not knowing the fate of their loved one. As the search for Sahil continues, his family remains steadfast in their pursuit of truth and justice, hoping against hope for his safe return.

In the midst of their anguish, Sahil’s parents draw strength from the support and solidarity of their community and the broader public. They cling to the belief that their relentless efforts and unwavering determination will ultimately lead to answers and bring their son back home safely. Until then, they continue to wait and hope, praying for a miracle that will reunite them with Sahil, their beloved son and a dedicated sailor of the Indian Navy.
