In a remarkable achievement, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has broken records on YouTube, the live streaming platform. The live telecast of the Chandrayaan-3 Mission Soft-landing on August 23, 2023, captured the attention of over 80 lakh peak concurrent viewers (PCVs), making it the most-watched live stream globally. This accomplishment reflects the immense interest and curiosity of space enthusiasts and the general public alike.

Chandrayaan-3, India’s third lunar mission, drew a massive audience during its live telecast as viewers eagerly tuned in to witness the critical moments of the endeavor. The mission’s live telecast surpassed other prominent events in terms of peak concurrent viewership. It outperformed major events such as the Brazil vs Croatia football match from the FIFA World Cup 2022, the Brazil vs South Korea football match from the same tournament, and even significant events like the Cariocão 2023 Serie A semi-final between Vasco da Gama and Flamengo.

ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 Mission achieved a peak concurrent viewership of over 80 lakh, solidifying its position as the most-watched live stream globally. This success highlights the increasing interest in space exploration and technological advancements.

In response to the achievement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally congratulated ISRO Chairman S Somanath during a telephonic conversation. Prime Minister Modi, who was attending the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, extended his commendations and expressed his intention to visit ISRO’s headquarters in Bengaluru to honor the team in person.

In a lighthearted and symbolic note, Prime Minister Modi remarked on Somanath’s name being associated with the moon, and he congratulated Somanath and his team on the achievement. Chandrayaan-3’s success is a significant milestone for India, as it follows the setback of the Chandrayaan-2 mission in 2019. The mission not only establishes India as the fourth nation to achieve a successful moon landing but also uniquely marks the first successful landing on the southern hemisphere of the moon, further solidifying India’s prowess in space exploration.

The impressive viewership on YouTube reflects the world’s enthusiasm for space exploration and ISRO’s remarkable achievements, reaffirming the organization’s position as a global leader in the field.
