Kamal Nath Condemns MP as “Chaupat Pradesh”

Kamal Nath may tender his resignation from MP Congress Chief post on Tuesday

Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Kamal Nath, has strongly criticized the Madhya Pradesh Government following a recent shocking child rape incident in Ujjain. He expressed deep concern over the incident and referred to the state as a “Chaupat Pradesh” (ruined state).

The incident that sparked Kamal Nath’s remarks involved the rape of a 15-year-old girl in Ujjain. The survivor was rescued by a priest who found her bleeding and partially undressed near the gates of an ashram. The priest immediately informed the police, who arrived at the scene and rushed the girl to the hospital for a medical examination, which confirmed sexual assault.

Kamal Nath addressed the incident, saying, “A lot of similar such incidents happen in the state that go unnoticed. While some get noticed. But there are a lot of such incidents that happen in the state whose information we do not get. ‘Aaj yeh chaupat pradesh bann gaya hai’ (Today, this state has become ruined).”

So far, the police have arrested two individuals in connection with the case. The primary accused, an autorickshaw driver, has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and also under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 376. The second accused, also an autorickshaw driver, faces charges of suppressing evidence related to the crime.

Following their arrests, the autorickshaw driver, who is the main accused, was presented before a Special Court in Ujjain. The court ordered a seven-day judicial remand for the accused. The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Mahakal police station in Ujjain.

The Ujjain Superintendent of Police (SP), Sachin Sharma, provided details of the police response to the incident. He stated that as soon as the police received the information, the girl was immediately taken for a medical examination. The survivor was initially unable to communicate the details of the assault to the police, prompting them to involve a counselor to assist her.

“The girl was unable to inform the police about what had happened, so a counselor was called to assist. The counselor interacted with her and was able to confirm to the Police about the assault,” SP Sharma explained.

Based on medical findings and the survivor’s account, a case was registered, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to conduct further investigations. The police diligently collected all available technical evidence, which ultimately led to the arrest of the autorickshaw driver.

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation and calls for justice from various quarters, including political leaders and activists. Child sexual abuse remains a grave concern in India, and such incidents highlight the urgent need for greater awareness, preventive measures, and stringent law enforcement to protect children from sexual offenses.

As the case continues to unfold and investigations proceed, it remains essential for society to stand united in demanding justice for survivors and advocating for stronger measures to prevent child sexual abuse in the future. Kamal Nath’s condemnation of the incident underscores the gravity of the situation and the need for concerted efforts to address this issue in Madhya Pradesh and across the country.
