Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge expression of displeasure over a belated invitation to the flag hoisting event at the new Parliament building has raised eyebrows and sparked discussions. In a letter addressed to Rajya Sabha Secretary General Pramod Chandra Mody, Kharge voiced his disappointment, citing the tardy receipt of the invitation, which left him with no option but to decline the invitation to the function scheduled for the following Sunday.
The issue centers around the flag hoisting event scheduled for September 17 at the new Parliament building, a momentous occasion coinciding with the auspicious Vishwakarma Puja and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday celebration. This event is expected to be attended by dignitaries, including Vice President of India and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
Kharge’s letter underlines the importance of timely communication, especially concerning significant national events. He expressed his sense of disappointment at receiving the invitation on September 15, just the previous evening. Kharge highlighted that his unavailability for the event was due to pre-arranged commitments, namely, meetings of the newly constructed Congress Working Committee (CWC) scheduled for September 16 and 17 in Hyderabad. Currently in Hyderabad for these meetings, Kharge outlined his return to Delhi late on September 17, making it logistically challenging for him to attend the morning event on September 17.
The incident serves as a reminder of the need for effective communication and coordination in matters of national significance. It also highlights the complexities involved in aligning the schedules of prominent political leaders, especially when dealing with a tightly packed calendar of events and commitments.
The flag hoisting event at the new Parliament building holds significant symbolism. It signifies the transition from the historic old Parliament building to the modern and technologically advanced new facility. This shift has been long-awaited and is a moment of pride for the nation.
The event is expected to be attended by several key figures, including Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Harivansh, and Ministers of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghawal and V. Muraleedharan. Additionally, leaders from various political parties representing both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha are anticipated to participate, making it a collective celebration of India’s democratic traditions and the country’s ongoing journey in governance and policy-making.
While the disappointment of Mallikarjun Kharge over the belated invitation to the flag hoisting event may be a logistical hiccup, it underscores the importance of effective communication and planning, particularly for events that hold great national significance. Such occasions offer an opportunity for unity and reflection on the democratic values that underpin India’s governance system.
