In a remarkable turn of events, a man in Manipur, who had been presumed dead amid the ongoing ethnic violence in the state, made a surprising return home on Tuesday. Satkhothang Kipgen, a 49-year-old resident of Manipur’s Kangpokpi district, had gone missing on September 30, leading to widespread concerns about his fate.
The Kuki Students Organization’s media cell had previously honored Satkhothang Kipgen as a “fallen hero” who had supposedly sacrificed his life “in defense of our ancestral land and freedom” during the ethnic conflict.
However, against all expectations, Mr. Kipgen was discovered alive by Manipur Police near Longjang village in Kangpokpi district on Tuesday. His unexpected reappearance has left the community and authorities in disbelief.
Upon being found, Mr. Kipgen revealed that he had lost his way after consuming an excessive amount of alcohol. This unexpected twist in his disappearance sheds a different light on the circumstances surrounding his absence.
During his absence, allegations of abduction had emerged. The Committee of Tribal Unity (CoTU) had accused armed individuals of abducting Mr. Kipgen on September 30.
