In a bid to restore normalcy in Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has assured the people that internet services will be reinstated within the next four to five days. The move comes in the wake of ongoing ethnic clashes that have plagued Manipur since May 3, resulting in around 200 fatalities. To maintain peace, harmony, and law and order in the state, the government had previously extended the ban on mobile internet services.

Addressing the public at a program held at the mini secretariat in the Naga-dominated Ukhrul district, Chief Minister N Biren Singh acknowledged the challenges people have faced due to the mobile internet ban. He explained that the government had to impose this restriction because some elements had exploited the situation to create disturbances. However, he reassured the public that services would be restored within the next four to five days.

Furthermore, the chief minister addressed the issues faced by the people in Ukhrul and expressed the government’s commitment to resolving them. Singh emphasized the government’s interest in developing Ukhrul according to the wishes of the local population.

Acknowledging the water scarcity issue in Ukhrul, he stated that ₹6 crore had been allocated for improving water supply in the town. Additionally, the state government is planning to build a dam with an estimated cost of ₹180-200 crore to address water-related concerns.

N Biren Singh also extended his gratitude to civil society leaders and village chiefs for their efforts in combating the drug menace in Manipur.

In a related development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a chargesheet against six individuals in connection with the parading of two tribal women naked in Manipur. The accused face charges under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for serious offenses, including gang rape, murder, outraging the modesty of women, and criminal conspiracy. The CBI also filed a “report” against a juvenile involved in the case.

The restoration of internet services and the legal actions taken are part of efforts to address the complex challenges and maintain peace and security in Manipur.
