Madhya Pradesh’s government is taking a significant stride in providing medical education in Hindi by introducing textbooks in the language for second, third, and fourth-year MBBS students, as conveyed by the state’s education minister, Vishwas Sarang. The anticipated launch of these textbooks is scheduled for September, marking a pivotal development in the state’s ambitious plan to impart medical knowledge in the native language.

This noteworthy step follows the introduction of the first-year MBBS course in Hindi nine months ago and underscores the state’s commitment to promoting medical education in Hindi.

During an event on October 16, 2022, Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled the initial set of Hindi textbooks for MBBS students, encompassing subjects like Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry. Mr. Shah lauded Madhya Pradesh for pioneering the MBBS course in Hindi, making it the first state in the country to take this innovative approach.

Recently, at a gathering held at the Hamidia Hospital Auditorium, Minister Sarang distributed complimentary Hindi textbooks to first-year MBBS students, underscoring the government’s dedication to this venture. He also announced the inception of the “MBBS 2.0 in Hindi” initiative, encompassing the translation of textbooks for second, third, and fourth-year students pursuing medical studies.

Minister Sarang reflected on the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh’s decision to offer medical education in Hindi, a choice met with skepticism by some. Nonetheless, the government embraced the challenge with zeal, embarking on a resolute and swift effort to actualize this vision.

By introducing Hindi textbooks for all four years of the MBBS course, the state aims to foster an inclusive and accessible environment for medical education, enabling students to develop a profound comprehension and fluency in their native language. This initiative highlights Madhya Pradesh’s dedication to prioritizing the use of Hindi in the realm of medical education, serving as a trailblazing example for other states to emulate.
