On the 27th of July, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, is all set to inaugurate the ‘Mera Gaon Meri Dharohar’ (MGMD) initiative as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, as announced by the Ministry of Culture.
MGMD is a pan-India project initiated by the Ministry of Culture under the National Mission on Cultural Mapping, in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA). The primary objective of this ambitious project is to culturally map India’s vast expanse of 6.5 lakh villages, spanning 29 states and 7 union territories, on a comprehensive virtual platform. The initiative aims to foster an appreciation for India’s rich cultural heritage, paving the way for economic growth, social harmony, and artistic development in rural communities.
The virtual platform, accessible at https://mgmd.gov.in, will serve as a bridge connecting people to the diverse and vibrant cultural heritage that each village embodies. Through MGMD, individuals will have the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the distinct cultural tapestry that defines India.
To mark the official launch, a grand projection mapping show will be held at the iconic Qutub Minar. The event promises to captivate visitors, offering them a virtual journey through India’s villages. Exhibitions and stalls will remain open from 11 AM to 10 PM, showcasing captivating glimpses of the cultural wonders each village holds. The projection mapping show will narrate different themes of select villages, carefully handpicked to represent the essence of India’s heritage.
Additionally, the MGMD launch film will present an engaging and inspiring narrative, further strengthening the connection to our cultural roots. The program will also feature a special “Samvaad” session, facilitating interactions between people from different villages and the esteemed minister. This unique opportunity will allow participants to engage directly with the heart and soul of India’s villages.
As the ‘Mera Gaon Meri Dharohar’ initiative takes flight, it aspires to instill a deep sense of pride and understanding of India’s cultural legacy among its people. By embracing and celebrating our cultural diversity, the project seeks to contribute to the holistic development and preservation of India’s cherished heritage.
