Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Rajasthan for a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rally, where he was welcomed by BJP Mahila Morcha cadre at the venue. This visit came shortly after the passage of the women’s reservation bill in Parliament, a significant development in Indian politics.
The “Parivartan Sankalp Mahasabha” marked the conclusion of four ‘Parivartan Yatras’ conducted by the BJP in the poll-bound state of Rajasthan. Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in Rajasthan in the next few months, making this rally an important event for the party.
During his address at the rally, PM Modi acknowledged the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament and attributed its success to the support of the people exercised through voting. He stated, “The people of Rajasthan have sounded the bugle against the bad governance of Congress. Congress deserves to get zero marks for the way they ran the government here. The people of Rajasthan have decided to remove the Gehlot government and bring back BJP.”
PM Modi also highlighted the significance of the Women’s Reservation Bill, emphasizing that it was not Congress’ intention to empower women. He questioned why the bill was not passed during the Congress’s rule if they genuinely supported women’s empowerment. The passage of the bill has put pressure on the Congress, which had initially backed it.
He further criticized the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government in Rajasthan, alleging that it wasted five important years of the state’s youth. PM Modi pledged that when the BJP forms the government in the state, strict action will be taken against mafia involved in leaking recruitment exam papers, a pressing issue during the Congress’s tenure.
Additionally, PM Modi accused Congress and its coalition partners of being staunch opponents of women’s reservation. He referred to them as “ghamandiya” (arrogant) partners and highlighted their resistance to the bill.
The rally in Jaipur was part of PM Modi’s visit to Rajasthan, which followed his address at a rally in Bhopal. Rajasthan, along with Madhya Pradesh, is among the five states scheduled to hold elections later this year. These rallies and visits serve as a platform for political leaders to address voters and garner support in the run-up to the elections.
In the 2018 Rajasthan assembly elections, the Congress won 99 seats, while the BJP secured 73 seats in the 200-member assembly. The Congress, led by Ashok Gehlot, formed the government with the support of independent members and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
The visit and rally allowed PM Modi to connect with the people of Rajasthan, showcase the BJP’s commitment to women’s empowerment through the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill, and highlight the shortcomings of the Congress government’s performance in the state.
