Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent announcement of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana marks a significant step towards providing free electricity to households across India. This ambitious scheme aims to bring sustainable development and improve people’s well-being by ensuring access to electricity without the burden of hefty bills. With an investment of over ₹75,000 crores, the government plans to light up 1 crore households by offering up to 300 units of free electricity every month.

The launch of PM Surya Ghar underscores the government’s commitment to promoting renewable energy and reducing dependence on conventional sources of power. By incentivizing the installation of rooftop solar systems, the scheme not only addresses energy poverty but also contributes to environmental conservation. Urban Local Bodies and Panchayats will play a crucial role in promoting rooftop solar systems within their jurisdictions, further boosting the adoption of clean energy solutions.

The application process for PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is simple and accessible to all eligible households. Interested individuals can visit the official website of PM Suryaghar and navigate to the “Apply for Rooftop Solar” section. After registering with essential details such as state, district, consumer account number, and electricity distribution company, applicants can submit their application for rooftop solar installation. The feasibility approval from DISCOM is necessary for proceeding with the installation process. Upon receiving approval, households can install the solar panels through registered vendors.

Once the installation is complete, applicants need to submit plant details and apply for a net meter. Following the installation of the net meter and inspection by DISCOM, households will receive a commissioning certificate from the portal. Subsequently, they can provide bank account details and a cancelled cheque through the portal to receive subsidies within 30 days. This streamlined process ensures transparency and facilitates the seamless implementation of the scheme.

The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is expected to yield substantial savings for households, estimated at ₹15,000-18,000 crore annually. Apart from enjoying free solar electricity, households can generate additional income by selling surplus energy to distribution companies and charging electric vehicles. Moreover, the scheme creates entrepreneurship opportunities for vendors involved in the supply and installation of solar panels, fostering economic growth and job creation.

The emphasis on solar energy aligns with India’s broader objective of achieving energy security and mitigating climate change. By harnessing the abundant solar resources available in the country, PM Surya Ghar contributes to reducing carbon emissions and transitioning towards a sustainable energy future. The widespread adoption of solar power not only benefits individual households but also contributes to the nation’s energy independence and resilience.

In addition to providing free electricity, PM Surya Ghar empowers citizens to actively participate in the renewable energy revolution. By encouraging rooftop solar installations, the government promotes a culture of energy conservation and environmental stewardship among citizens. This decentralized approach to energy production not only reduces reliance on centralized power grids but also enhances community resilience in the face of power outages and disruptions.

Furthermore, PM Surya Ghar embodies the government’s vision of inclusive development, ensuring that the benefits of economic growth reach every household, especially those in rural and remote areas. By bridging the gap in access to electricity, the scheme enhances the quality of life and economic opportunities for millions of families across the country.

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana represents a transformative initiative aimed at democratizing access to electricity and promoting sustainable development. With its focus on renewable energy and community participation, the scheme heralds a new era of clean and affordable power for all. As households embrace solar energy, India takes a significant step towards realizing its vision of a greener, more prosperous future.
