In a recent advisory issued by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on March 13, 2024, Paytm FASTag users were urged to procure a new FASTag issued by another bank before the specified deadline to ensure a seamless travel experience and avoid inconvenience at toll plazas. This directive comes in response to guidelines issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) regarding restrictions on Paytm Payments Bank.

The advisory emphasized the importance of switching to FASTags issued by other banks before March 13, 2024, to prevent penalties or double charges while commuting on national highways. According to the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), Paytm FASTag users will no longer be able to recharge or top-up their balance after March 15, 2024. However, they can utilize their existing balance to pay tolls beyond the stipulated date.

This move aligns with the regulatory framework set by the RBI and aims to ensure compliance with the guidelines governing Paytm Payments Bank. Paytm FASTag users are encouraged to take proactive measures to transition to FASTags issued by authorized banks or non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) to avoid any disruptions in their travel plans.

The MoRTH highlighted the significance of adhering to these guidelines and urged Paytm FASTag users to reach out to their respective banks for further assistance or refer to the FAQs provided on the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) website for clarification on any queries related to FASTags.

Meanwhile, the NHAI updated its list of authorized banks and NBFCs that are permitted to issue FASTags. The revised list includes 39 banks and NBFCs, ensuring a wide range of options for users to choose from. Notable names on the list include Airtel Payments Bank, Axis Bank Ltd, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, and Yes Bank, among others.

With the inclusion of these banks and NBFCs, users have access to a diverse range of institutions from which they can procure FASTags, facilitating a smooth transition process. This initiative aims to streamline the process of obtaining FASTags and ensure widespread availability across the country.

The transition to FASTags issued by authorized banks is essential to maintain the efficiency of toll collection systems on national highways. By adhering to the guidelines set by regulatory authorities, users can contribute to the seamless operation of toll plazas and minimize disruptions during their travels.

The decision to update the list of authorized FASTag issuers underscores the commitment of regulatory authorities to enhance the user experience and promote the widespread adoption of digital payment solutions. FASTags offer numerous benefits, including reduced waiting times at toll plazas, improved traffic flow, and enhanced convenience for commuters.

As the deadline approaches, Paytm FASTag users are encouraged to take timely action and switch to FASTags issued by other banks to avoid any inconvenience. By proactively addressing this transition, users can ensure a hassle-free travel experience on national highways and contribute to the efficient functioning of toll collection systems.

The advisory issued by the NHAI serves as a reminder for Paytm FASTag users to procure new FASTags issued by authorized banks before March 13, 2024. This proactive measure will help users avoid penalties and double charges while traveling on national highways and contribute to the smooth operation of toll plazas.
