Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver an address in the Lok Sabha at 11 am today, marking the commencement of the Special Parliament Session, which will run from Monday, September 18, to Thursday, September 22.

During this special session, approximately eight bills have been listed for consideration and passage. Additionally, the session will include discussions on Parliament’s 75-year journey. Notably, House proceedings will be conducted at the new Parliament building starting from tomorrow.

On Sunday, Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar hoisted the national flag at the new Parliament building, doing so atop the “Gaja Dwar” of the newly constructed parliamentary structure.

The announcement of this Special Session took the political circles by surprise, especially as parties are gearing up for assembly polls in five states later this year. Opposition parties have criticized the BJP-led central government for calling the special session without disclosing the agenda.

The Congress party has specifically demanded the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill during this special session of Parliament. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh highlighted the history of efforts to pass this bill, emphasizing that bills introduced or passed in Rajya Sabha do not lapse, and the Women’s Reservation Bill remains active.

The Women’s Reservation Bill, which was passed in Rajya Sabha during the Manmohan Singh-led government, has yet to be enacted. It remains a subject of political debate and discussion, and its potential passage during this special session will be closely watched.

Prime Minister Modi’s address and the proceedings of this Special Parliament Session are expected to set the tone for significant legislative discussions and political developments in the days to come.
