In a recent parliamentary session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the no-confidence motion tabled against his government by the Opposition INDIA bloc, led by Congress leader and Assam MP Gaurav Gogoi. The Prime Minister’s response came after the Opposition walked out from the Lok Sabha. The session witnessed a robust exchange between the ruling party and the Opposition over various issues, prominently focusing on the Manipur issue.

PM Modi commenced his address by highlighting the developmental strides that India has taken under the governance of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Subsequently, he used his time to take a series of pointed jabs at the Opposition, collectively labeling them as the ‘Ghamandia alliance’, which he accused of pursuing policies detrimental to India’s economic progress.

During his speech, Prime Minister Modi addressed the Manipur issue, which had caused the Opposition to walk out. He assured the House that those responsible for causing violence in Manipur would face appropriate consequences. He also expressed his willingness to engage in a detailed discussion on Manipur, but criticized the Opposition for using the issue for political gains rather than genuinely addressing the concerns of the region.

PM Modi empathetically reassured the nation and Manipur in particular, promising that India stands united with the state during times of crisis. He condemned the heinous crimes against women in Manipur and affirmed that both the central and state governments are committed to delivering justice to the victims.

Taking a historical perspective, PM Modi attributed some of the challenges faced in the northeast to previous Congress-led governments. He pointed out that ethnic clashes in Manipur were a consequence of the trust deficit created by the Congress party’s governance.

Moreover, PM Modi underscored his government’s proactive approach towards the northeast. He highlighted the various developmental initiatives undertaken in the region over the last nine years, emphasizing the commitment to promoting growth and stability.

Concluding his address, Prime Minister Modi turned the spotlight on the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha polls. He expressed confidence that the NDA and BJP would secure a resounding victory, setting new records. Ultimately, the no-confidence motion was voted down in the Lok Sabha by voice vote, leading to the adjournment of the lower house of the parliament for the day. The intense exchange between the government and the Opposition shed light on significant national and regional issues, with the Manipur situation remaining a central point of discussion.
