Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra has entered its fifth day, restarting from Assam’s Shivsagar. The leader resumed his journey in a bus from Tuli in Nagaland, reaching Assam around 9:45 am. At Haluwating, hundreds of party workers received him, marking the handover of the national flag to Assam Congress leaders for the eight-day journey in the state.
The Assam leg of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra spans eight days, beginning on January 18, covering 17 districts and a distance of 833 km.
Speaking at the National Flag handover Ceremony in Haluwating, Rahul Gandhi emphasized the yatra’s goal of uniting people across religions and castes and delivering justice. He stated, “We started the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from Manipur and will continue till Maharashtra. This yatra aims not only to unite every religion and caste in India but also to provide ‘nyay’ (justice). We have added ‘nyay’ to the name of this yatra because we feel that the BJP and RSS have done a lot of injustice – social, economic, and political – to the people of the nation.”
Referring to the ideology of Sankardev, a revered figure in Assam, Gandhi highlighted the yatra’s commitment to uniting people and fighting against injustice.
“Perhaps India’s most corrupt government is in Assam,” he added.
On January 17, Senior Congress leader Alka Lamba urged the BJP-led government in Assam to facilitate the necessary permissions for the ongoing ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in the state. Lamba emphasized the importance of timely permissions for better preparation, expressing confidence that the Congress would increase its Lok Sabha members in Assam from three to double digits.
The yatra, covering diverse regions, underscores the Congress’s commitment to connecting with people, addressing concerns of injustice, and fostering unity across the country. As it traverses Assam’s districts, the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra continues to be a significant political event, shaping dialogues and interactions with local communities.
