Last night, a horrific crime unfolded in Rajasthan’s Osian, where four family members, including a six-month-old baby girl, were brutally murdered and their bodies set on fire in their home’s courtyard, sending shockwaves through the village. The police have detained a 19-year-old man, believed to be related to the family, as the prime suspect in the heinous Rajasthan family murders. The tragic incident has triggered a fierce political backlash from the Opposition BJP against the Ashok Gehlot government, especially given the location of the crime in Jodhpur, the Chief Minister’s home district, just months ahead of the Assembly polls.
Residents of Chaurai village noticed smoke emanating from the residence of Punaram (55) and alerted the police. Upon entering the family’s home, the charred remains of Punaram, his wife Bhanwri (50), and daughter-in-law Dhapu were discovered in the courtyard, alongside a heart-wrenching sight – the remains of Dhapu’s six-month-old daughter.
The family’s primary source of income was farming, adding to the tragedy of their untimely deaths. Police suspect that the killer slit their throats before dragging their bodies to the courtyard and setting them on fire. The motive behind the Rajasthan family murders is yet to be confirmed, and the police are thoroughly investigating all possible angles, including the possibility of personal enmity.
A forensic team is currently at the crime scene, and top district authorities, including Collector Himanshu Gupta and Jodhpur Rural police chief Dharmendra Singh, are closely monitoring the situation.
Meanwhile, the BJP has launched a scathing attack on the Ashok Gehlot government, citing the incident as a clear indication of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, an MP from Rajasthan’s Bikaner, further accused the Congress government of a rise in daily reports of rape and murder cases in the state since it came to power. The Union Minister squarely placed the blame on Mr. Gehlot, referencing the 2020 rebellion led by Sachin Pilot that nearly toppled the state government and highlighting the growing influence of MLAs in the administration.
This sharp criticism from the BJP comes as the Rajasthan Assembly polls draw near, while the Congress attempts to maintain a united front in the face of mounting challenges. The tragic crime has not only left a community grieving but has also ignited political tensions, urging authorities to address public safety concerns and restore faith in the law enforcement system.
