As the G20 Summit approaches, the Rajghat memorial complex in Delhi has undergone significant transformations, including unique landscaping and the installation of a 115-ft Indian flag. The preparations for the summit are in full swing across Delhi, with beautification efforts being a notable aspect. Atishi, the PWD (Public Works Department) Minister of Delhi, visited the Rajghat site to inspect the progress and preparations for the upcoming international event.
Atishi emphasized that her role included overseeing the transformation of various areas in Delhi, such as the stretch from Rajghat to Red Fort. This area has been enhanced with features like fountains, contemporary street art, open seating spaces, and improved lighting. The beautification efforts are aimed at creating an appealing environment for delegates and heads of countries who will visit these locations during the G20 Summit.
While the preparations are geared towards the summit, Atishi highlighted that the Kejriwal government remains committed to ensuring the continued beauty of Delhi even after the event. She mentioned that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is actively participating in enhancing Delhi’s aesthetics for the G20 Summit. The MCD has deployed sanitation staff and mechanized sweeping machines across the city to maintain cleanliness during the event. Moreover, the commitment to keeping Delhi clean and beautiful will persist beyond the summit.
Atishi clarified that various entities, including the Centre, the PWD, and the MCD, have collectively contributed to the beautification efforts. She underscored the collaborative nature of the work and dispelled the notion that any one entity has exclusively undertaken the task.
India is gearing up to host the G20 Summit in New Delhi from September 9-10. The summit will bring world leaders to the city, and India aims to showcase its rich culture and diversity during its presidency of the G20. The country’s cultural elements, including cuisine, crafts, and cultural displays, will be featured during the event. India’s presidency of the G20 began on December 1 of the previous year.
