Shiv Sena (UBT) Member of Parliament Priyanka Chaturvedi took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to indirectly criticize the presence of fugitive businessman Lalit Modi at the wedding of prominent lawyer Harish Salve. Salve, a member of the ‘One Nation, One Election’ panel, recently wed his British partner Trina in London. The event garnered significant attention due to the presence of Lalit Modi, who is wanted by Indian agencies on charges of corruption and money laundering.
Chaturvedi’s tweet raised questions about the association between Lalit Modi and Harish Salve, who is well-known for his high-profile legal career and has represented various clients, including the Indian government, in significant cases.
In her tweet, Chaturvedi stated, “Not that I care about sarkari BJP lawyer marrying a third time & then very conveniently waxing eloquent on behalf of Modi government on uniform marriage laws, polygamy etc … but what should concern everyone is the presence of a fugitive who is escaping Indian law as an invitee and celebrating Modi government’s favorite lawyer’s wedding. Who’s helping whom? Who’s protecting whom is now not even a question anymore.”
Chaturvedi’s remarks highlighted the perceived closeness between Lalit Modi and members of the legal and political fraternity. She also shared the statements of a journalist who pointed out that when a fugitive like Lalit Modi attends the wedding of a prominent lawyer like Harish Salve, questions are inevitably raised about their relationship and connections.
Additionally, Sanjay Singh of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chimed in on X, questioning the association between Lalit Modi and Harish Salve, especially in light of Salve’s membership on the ‘One Nation, One Election’ panel. Singh’s tweet in Hindi raised concerns about Modi’s celebration with Salve and sought an explanation regarding their relationship.
The presence of Lalit Modi at Harish Salve’s wedding has drawn attention and raised questions about the connections and associations within India’s legal and political circles.
