Telangana Police File FIR After 20 Stray Dogs Gunned Down

Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara's Baba Tarsem Singh was shot dead on Thursday on the shrine's premises by two men on a motorcycle

The recent incident in Ponnakal village, Mahabubnagar district, where 20 stray dogs were mercilessly gunned down, has sent shockwaves through the local community and sparked outrage across the region. The heinous act of animal cruelty has prompted swift action from the Telangana Police, who have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against an unidentified individual responsible for the gruesome act.

The horrifying discovery was made by locals on Friday morning when they stumbled upon the lifeless bodies of 20 stray dogs strewn across the streets of Ponnakal village. Additionally, five other dogs were found critically injured, further adding to the distressing nature of the incident. Promptly, the authorities were alerted, and an investigation was launched into the matter.

In response to the incident, a case has been registered under section 429 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which deals with the killing or maiming of animals, along with relevant provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Arms Act. The FIR was filed at Addakal Police Station based on a complaint filed by a panchayat official, highlighting the severity of the offense and the urgency to bring the perpetrators to justice.

While the investigation is still underway, an eyewitness has come forward, claiming to have seen an individual arrive in a car and commit the atrocious act of shooting the stray dogs. This crucial piece of information has provided investigators with a lead to pursue in their efforts to identify and apprehend the culprits responsible for this senseless act of violence against animals.

Despite the eyewitness account, the motive behind the crime remains unclear, leaving investigators puzzled as to what prompted such a brutal and inhumane act. The lack of a clear motive has only added to the outrage and condemnation expressed by animal rights activists and members of the local community.

Adulapuram Goutham, an activist from the Stray Animal Foundation of India, condemned the incident, stating that masked individuals arrived in a car and indiscriminately fired at the dogs with a gun. The incident occurred between 1:30 am and 2:30 am, leaving numerous dogs dead and several others wounded in the process. The brutality of the attack has left many in shock and disbelief, prompting calls for swift action and justice for the innocent animals.

In response to the incident, Bhoothpur Police Inspector M. Ramakrishna assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. However, the complexity of the case, coupled with the lack of concrete leads, presents a significant challenge for law enforcement officials.

Meanwhile, the incident has reignited the conversation around animal welfare and the need for stricter laws to protect stray animals from such acts of cruelty. Many have called for harsher penalties for individuals found guilty of animal abuse, emphasizing the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.

As the investigation progresses, authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist in bringing the culprits to justice. The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of promoting compassion and empathy towards animals and working towards creating a safer and more humane environment for all living beings.
