Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia took a swipe at former Chief Minister Kamal Nath, responding to his recent ‘Jan Mafi Yatra’ comment. Scindia remarked that Congress’ ‘Mohabbat Ki Dukan’ (Shop of Love) only deals in ‘Nafrat Ka Saman’ (Hate Merchandise). This exchange of words occurred in the context of the ongoing political activities leading up to the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections.
Kamal Nath had earlier suggested that the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led government in Madhya Pradesh should organize a ‘Jan Mafi Yatra’ instead of the BJP’s ‘Jan Ashirwad Yatra.’ He claimed that the public was ridiculing the BJP due to these yatras and criticized Chouhan’s announcements, implying that they were politically motivated with the elections approaching.
In response to Kamal Nath’s remarks, Jyotiraditya Scindia, a prominent leader who switched from the Congress to the BJP, stated to reporters, “No matter how many guarantees or ‘Yatras’ Congress or Kamal Nath ji may take out, their ‘Mohabbat Ki Dukan’ only has ‘Nafrat Ka Saman’.” He expressed confidence that these efforts by the Congress would fizzle out quickly.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also entered the fray, addressing a public rally in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandla district. During his speech, Shah accused the previous Congress government of engaging in corruption during its tenure. He alleged that more than 51 welfare schemes for the poor were discontinued during Kamal Nath’s rule and criticized the Congress for its alleged corruption.
The Madhya Pradesh assembly elections are scheduled to take place later this year, and both the BJP and Congress are intensively campaigning to secure a majority. For the Congress and other opposition parties, these elections serve as an opportunity to gauge the unity of their INDIA bloc. Meanwhile, the BJP aims to strengthen its position ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
