Ajay Devgn is an Indian film actor, producer and director, who works primarily in Hindi cinema. He came into limelight with the movie Phool aur Kantee in 1991, which earned him Best Male Debut Filmfare Award. He has appeared in over 100 films and has won numerous accolades, including four National Film Awards and four Filmfare Awards. In 2016, he was honoured by the Government of India with the Padma Shri, the country’s fourth-highest civilian honour.
Vishal Veeru Devgan (Professionaly Known as Ajay Devgn) was born on 2 April 1969 in a Punjabi Hindu family originally from Amritsar, Punjab. His father, Veeru Devgan, was a renowned Bollywood fight master, stunt choreographer and action-film director and his mother, Veena, is a film producer. His cousin, Anil Devgan, is a filmmaker and screenwriter. He studied in the Silver Beach High School, Juhu and then studied at Mithibai College. He is a practicing Shaiva Hindu who prominently wears a Rudraksha.
Ajay Devgn started dating actress, Kajol, whilst they were co-starring in Gundaraj in 1995. On 24 February 1999, the couple married in a traditional Maharashtrian Hindu ceremony. The couple has two children. Their daughter, Nysa, was born on 20 April 2003 and their son, Yug, was born in 2010. He was the first Bollywood personality to own a private jet for transport to shooting locations, to promotions and for personal trips.
Career :
Ajay Devgn started his career as an action star with Hindi movie “Phool Aur kantee” alongside Madhoo in the year 1991, which earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. In his opening scene, Devgn performed a split while balancing between two motorcycles, which made him very popular among youths. He changed his Stage name from his birth name, Vishal to Ajay due to several others actor named Vishal being launched at the same time.
He then worked in the action films Jigar (1992), Vijaypath (1994), Dilwale (1994), Jaan (1996) and Diljale (1996). He then changed the gear and acted in romantic roles in Ishq (1997), Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha (1998) and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999). For playing a riot victim in Zakhm (1998) and Bhagat Singh in The Legend of Bhagat Singh (2002), he twice won the National Film Award for Best Actor. He also gained praise for the crime dramas Company (2002) and Omkara (2006).
Ajay Devgn again changed the gear and expanded his acting career to comedies and action with Golmaal: Fun Unlimited (2006), Golmaal Returns (2008), Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai (2010), Golmaal 3 (2010), Raajneeti (2010), Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? (2010), Singham (2011), Bol Bachchan (2012), Son of Sardaar (2012), Singham Returns (2014), Drishyam (2015), and Golmaal Again (2017). His highest-grossing releases came with Total Dhamaal (2019), Tanhaji (2020) and Drishyam 2 (2022). For portraying the title role in Tanhaji, he won this third National Film Award for Best Actor.

Ajay Devgn owns a film production and distribution company Ajay Devgn FFilms (ADF), established in 2000. In 2000, ADF released its first film, Raju Chacha, All the Best: Fun Begins, Singham Returns, Shivaay and Total Dhamaal. Devgn also established a visual effects company, NY VFXWAALA, after his children. It has been involved with many major films, such as Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Tamasha, Bajirao Mastani, Mersal, Dilwale, Force 2, and Simmba. The company won the Best Special Effects award at the 64th National Film Awards for the film Shivaay (2016).

Controversies :
| In 2009, Karan Ramsay (Producer) filed a copyright infringement case against him over the script of the film All The Best. After the legal battle, the case went in favour of Ramsay, but Ajay’s production house claimed that their film was an official remake of an English comedy play, Right Bed Wrong Husband. |
| Before the Diwali release of his film Son of Sardaar and Yash Chopra’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Ajay filed a legal complaint against Yashraj Films claiming that they had manipulated distributors and exhibitors in getting more screens for their film. |
