Sagarika Ghose, an Indian journalist, columnist, author, and now a politician, has an impressive career in the media industry. She has worked with many renowned publications such as The Times of India, Outlook, and The Indian Express. She has also served as a prime time anchor for BBC World and CNN-IBN. Currently, She is a Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) representing the Trinamool Congress.
Sagarika Ghose is the daughter of Bhaskar Ghose, who was previously a member of the Indian Administrative Service 1960 batch and the former Director General of Doordarshan, the Indian public television network. Among her relatives are Arundhati Ghose, a former ambassador and diplomat, and Ruma Pal, a former justice of the Supreme Court of India. She is wedded to Rajdeep Sardesai, a journalist and news anchor, who is the offspring of Dilip Sardesai, a former Indian test cricketer. Rajdeep and Sagarika have been blessed with two children, a son named Ishan and a daughter named Tarini.
Sagarika Ghose completed her education at Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram, and obtained her BA in History from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. In 1987, she was honored with the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship and pursued her BA in Modern History from Magdalen College, followed by an MPhil from St Antony’s College, Oxford.
Sagarika Ghose has won several awards in journalism and is the author of two novels, as well as the biography of Indira Gandhi, Indira: India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister. consulting editor of The Times of India. In 2022, her biography of former Indian Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee was released. She joined the Trinamool Congress Party on 11 February 2024, and was elected as the party’s candidate to the Rajya Sabha in 2024.
