Shweta Basu Prasad is an Indian film actress. She started her career as a child actress in Hindi films and television series. For her performance in the film Makdee, she won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist.
Shweta Basu Prasad was born in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand and later migrated with her family to Mumbai, when she was a child. Her father Anuj Prasad is from Bihar and her mother Sarmishta Basu Prasad is from West Bengal. She studied commerce and completed her graduation in mass media and journalism in Mumbai. She wrote columns for Indian Express. She married filmmaker Rohit Mittal on 13 December 2018. She has announced their separation on Instagram on 10 December 2019.
Shweta Basu Prasad began her career at a very tender age. She started in television but soon moved to Bollywood. Her film debut in 2002 was with a double role in Makdee, for which she got the National Award for Best Child Actress. After her success on the silver screen, she got offers from television series such as Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and Karishma Kaa Karishma, and film such as Iqbal. She made her debut in Telugu cinema in 2008, with the film Kotha Bangaru Lokam. She has made many movies in Tamil, Telugu, and Bengali. She also worked in Balaji Telefilms television series Chandra Nandni as leading actress Nandni, and Hindi films Badrinath Ki Dulhania and The Tashkent Files.

Controversy :
In 2014, she was caught for being involved in a high profile prostitution racket, after the hyderabad police raided a hotel in Banjara Hills. At first she justified her involvement by saying “I have made wrong choices in my career, and I was out of money”. Later on she completely denied this statement and involvement in the case. That time she was sent to rehabilitation centre for six months.
