The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued IMD’s Forecast of intense rainfall across various regions in the country from 1st to 4th August. An orange alert has also been declared as per IMD’s forecast for Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh on 2nd and 3rd August, and for Madhya Pradesh on 2nd August. Additionally, Konkan, Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on 3rd August. The IMD predicts continuous heavy to very heavy rainfall activity in east and east-central India over the next two days, with an increase in rainfall expected in Northeast India from 3rd August and in northwest India from 2nd to 3rd August.

Recently, the weather department stated that the second half of the monsoon season is likely to witness normal rainfall following an excess of precipitation in July, despite concerns about potential rain suppression due to El Nino and other unfavorable conditions in August. Although August’s rainfall is anticipated to be below normal (less than 94 percent of LPA), conditions are expected to improve in September, according to the IMD. Rainfall between 94 percent and 106 percent of the long-period average (LPA) is considered normal.

In Northwest India, isolated heavy rains are expected in Uttarakhand and East Uttar Pradesh from 1st to 4th August, in Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh from 2nd to 4th August, in Himachal Pradesh and East Rajasthan on 3rd and 4th August, and in Punjab on 3rd August. There are also chances of isolated very heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh on 2nd and 3rd August, and in East Uttar Pradesh on 2nd August.

In Central India, light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall is likely in East Madhya Pradesh from 1st to 3rd August, in north Chhattisgarh on 1st and 2nd August, in Northwest Madhya Pradesh on 2nd and 3rd August, and in Vidarbha on 2nd August. Additionally, isolated very heavy rainfall is possible in East Madhya Pradesh on 2nd August.

In East India, expect light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning, and heavy rainfall at isolated places over Bihar from 1st to 4th August, over Odisha from 31st July to 3rd August, over Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand from 31st July to 2nd August, and over SubHimalaya West Bengal & Sikkim on 3rd and 4th August.

Northeast India is likely to experience light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall over the next five days, and isolated very heavy rainfall is expected on 3rd and 4th August.

In West India, light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall is expected to continue over Konkan, Goa, and ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra for the next four days, with very heavy rains likely on 3rd August. South India is forecasted to have light to moderate widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall over Coastal Karnataka from 2nd to 4th August, while reduced rainfall activity is anticipated over the remaining regions.
