Harmanpreet Kaur Slams “Pathetic Umpiring” in Tied ODI

India women’s captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, expressed her strong disapproval of the umpiring during the tied third ODI against Bangladesh on Saturday, describing it as “pathetic.” India’s batting performance resulted in a total of 225 runs in 49.3 overs, while Bangladesh posted their highest-ever total of 225/4 in the 50-over format against India, with Fargana Hoque’s impressive century (107) marking a historic moment for her country. India’s opener, Smriti Mandhana, contributed 59 runs, and middle-order batter Harleen Deol made an impressive 77, but the team’s collapse from 191 for four to 225 all out led to a tied three-match ODI series, ending 1-1.

Harmanpreet expressed her frustration with the umpiring decisions during the match and stated that there was much to learn from the game, both cricket-wise and in dealing with such umpiring in future matches against Bangladesh. She emphasized the need for better preparation to handle such situations in subsequent games.

During the match, a contentious caught-behind decision against Meghna Singh added to India’s woes, leaving both her and Jemimah Rodrigues visibly unhappy with the ruling. Harmanpreet criticized the on-field umpires, Muhammad Kamruzzaman and Tanvir Ahmed, both locals, and labeled their umpiring as “pathetic.” She expressed her disappointment with some of the decisions made during the game, including her own dismissal when adjudged out leg-before for 14 runs off Nahida Akter.

Despite the umpiring issues, Harmanpreet Kaur commended Harleen Deol for her outstanding performance, acknowledging her 77 runs scored off 108 balls with nine fours. She also praised Jemimah Rodrigues for her excellent play throughout the innings.

The three-match ODI series between India and Bangladesh had its share of ups and downs. Bangladesh secured their first-ever ODI win against India in the first match, while India bounced back to defeat the hosts by 108 runs in the second game. The third ODI ended in a tie, concluding the series with a 1-1 draw.
