Indian Men Chess Team Emerges Victorious in Asian Games

Arjun Erigaisi's win on the fourth board helped the top-seeded Indian men beat Vietnam 2.5-1.5 in the seventh round of the chess team competition in the Asian Games on Thursday

In the Asian Games chess team competition, the Indian chess teams are displaying their skills and determination. The Indian men’s chess team secured a significant victory against Vietnam, while the women’s team had a draw against Kazakhstan.

 

The Indian men’s chess team, seeded as the top contender, faced Vietnam in the seventh round and secured a victory with a score of 2.5-1.5. The team’s performance was marked by strong gameplay and strategic moves. Grandmasters D Gukesh, R Praggnanandhaa, and Vidit S Gujrathi played solid games and drew their respective matches against Quang Liem Le, Ngoc Troung Son Nguyen, and Tuan Minh Le. However, it was Arjun Erigaisi’s remarkable win on the fourth board against Tuan Min Tran that secured a crucial point and clinched victory for the Indian team.

 

Both the Indian men’s and women’s chess teams are currently in second place with 11 Match Points (MPs) each. With a few rounds left to be played, the competition remains intense as teams aim to secure top positions in the tournament.

 

In the upcoming eighth round, the Indian men’s chess team is set to face the Republic of Korea, and fans are eager to see their performance in this crucial matchup. The team is determined to maintain its momentum and secure more victories in the competition.

 

As the Asian Games chess competition progresses, Iran currently leads the field with 12 MPs, while Uzbekistan closely follows in third place with 10 MPs. The battle for supremacy in the tournament continues, and the Indian men’s chess team is focused on delivering strong performances in the remaining rounds.

 

In the women’s section, the Indian chess team had a challenging matchup against third-seeded Kazakhstan. The games were closely contested, with Koneru Humpy drawing her match on the top board against Bibissara Assaubayeva. D Harika’s victory on the second board against Meruyert Kamalidenova added to the team’s score. However, the third board saw Zhansaya Abdumalik winning a strategic battle against R Vaishali. The match ultimately ended in a draw after Vantika Agarwal’s game against Dinara Saduakassova.

 

In the upcoming eighth round, the Indian women’s chess team will face Hong Kong, China, as they aim to secure more victories and climb the leaderboard. The competition remains fierce, and both the men’s and women’s teams are determined to showcase their chess prowess and bring glory to India in the Asian Games.
